Shrooms scenes deconstruction

Shrooms scenes deconstruction

  • The camera angle first seems like an establishing shot of the setting of the scene, but paired with the non-diegetic sound which sounds quite discordant and chromatic makes it appear to the audience that maybe this is a POV shot from something's view, something we're not aware of just yet. The shot pans for a few seconds following the characters that we are watching.
  • The use of cross cutting of the shots from the shot behind the tree to in front on the 2 characters allows us to see their reactions to what's going to happen next which we link to what we think is behind the trees.
  • Clearly the shot is in a forest/woods type of area, trees are visible, branches, logs, and leaves. This gives opportunity for the colours of dark green and black to be used, the colour green connotes nature, but because of the dark shade of green that we are able to pick out suggests that something is wrong, that corruption is occurring or that something out of the ordinary is about to happen.
  • The low angle shot follows the character to the floor, we can see the blue sky in the background, the blue connoting a sense of calm outside of the place that these characters are. He's also wearing blue which suggests he's a masculine character who's subjected to what's happening which is clearly scaring him which opposes the conventions of masculine and how men don't really get scared.
  • There's editing involved which blurs the shot, it creates a fear among the audience and also also makes us wonder why it's happening.
  • Diegetic sound of the characters speaking is included, as well as a non-diegetic sound which sounds something like the sound used when a spell is cast.
  • This extreme close up of a masked character doesn't show us much at all other than the moving lips. The extreme close up puts us uncomfortably close with something we do not know what it is which keeps the audience panicked.
  • The diegetic sound used is of the masked character speaking, repeating the same words as when it was last shown which adds to the confusion that the audience are gathering.
  • The use of a mask connotes hidden identity, identity that the characters are unaware of and also that the audience are unaware of.
  • This medium shot of the character tracks him as he runs through a corridor, the use of low lighting adds to the suspense of the scene as it's not always completely clear to us what's on screen which helps us as the audience to feel the same confusion and panic as the character on screen.
  • Diegetic sound of the character heavy breathing adds to our understanding of how scared and panicked this character is as this point, non-diegetic sound is also included, the low notes add to the suspense, they're quite discordant and create a tension within the shot.
  • The lighting on the character is constantly changing through out the shot where he is running past open doors and natural light is shining through whilst he runs down a barely lit corridor, it links with the constantly changing feelings that the character must be feeling at this point, and the panic and the rush to get out from the area that he is within.
